10 Tiny Flourishes from March

I’ve got 10 things to share with you that have been making my life better.

I’d love to hear what’s been working for you! Share in the comments below.

Salt for migraines

Recently I decided to give another concerted effort to solving my migraines. I’d been averaging three a week and that’s just too many.

I did a deep dive and found a solution that seems to be helping – adding salt to my diet.

In the month since I’ve added salt, I’ve had just two migraines. I can write more about this, if you’re interested, but so far this seems to be working for me.

This video was part of my early research into this topic.

Gua Sha

A week before I discovered salt for migraines, I decided to try gua sha. I’d been waking up with sinus pressure and thought it might help with that.

Gua sha is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that uses a tool to scrape the skin to improve circulation.

I do a quick gua sha routine at night before bed and then again in the morning. I’ve found that it does help a lot with the sinus pressure problem.

I’ve combined the routine from this video and this one to create my own routine.

Here are the gua sha items I purchased:

Walks after dinner

I’m not a fan of daylight savings time, but it does mean that there’s enough daylight for a walk after dinner now. Evening walks are one of my favorite ways to get in some physical activity, time in nature, while also catching up on the day with Jim.

Bathroom remodel and flooring finished

This one isn’t really a tiny thing, but I’m adding it to this list anyway. We moved into this house two years ago and I hoped we’d be able to update our bathroom and also the flooring. However, neither of these fit in the budget when we moved.

A water heater leak back in November helped move both of these projects to the forefront. The water heater is in the middle of the house and ruined the carpet, which was in every room except the kitchen and bathrooms. Insurance paid to replace the carpet, and we added money to upgrade to luxury vinyl plank throughout the whole house.

That meant that we also needed to go ahead with changing out the tub unit in our bathroom. In early March, all of that work was done and we now have new flooring and a new shower unit.

Good-bye to the original stained tub and broken fixtures! Good-by to the twenty-five year old carpet and cracked vinyl flooring!

Planning and going to a concert

One of my goals this year is to plan more fun activities. This isn’t something I usually think about trying to do – hence the goal I set.

At the beginning of March, I checked the calendar for our town and chose a bluegrass concert. We’re not big bluegrass fans, but most any music is fun when it’s live.

We had a great time! The audience was full of true fans of the band that played, which made it a lot of fun for us. We hadn’t heard any of the music and knew nothing about the band, but the audience was into it!

Tiny museum in Covington, KY

Our oldest son needed a ride from the Cincinnati airport and we tacked on a small outing to the Behringer-Crawford Museum before picking him up.

I love a small museum, because they have such an eclectic collection of items. This museum did not disappoint!

We saw wooly mammoth fossils, train cars, river boat history, local artists’ works, and even a display honoring a local woman who taught hundreds of Covington 5 year olds in her home before the local schools included kindergarten.

Lend Me a Tenor

Our oldest daughter was in the play, Lend Me a Tenor at a community theater nearby. Jim’s family came for the day to see the play and we also got to have lunch with them, making a nice day with family.

Starting seeds

It’s garden season! I’ve got peas planted in the garden. My greenhouse has kale, broccoli, radish, and lettuce starts. And I’ve got tomatoes, peppers and basil seeds started in the house.

It feels good to get growing again.

Foot balm

I’ve been using this Ancient Greek Remedy Foot Balm for quite a while now. It works better than any other product I’ve tried for keeping my feet soft.

New shoes from Amazon

New shoes are always fun. But, I hate to actually go shopping.

I ordered this pair of navy blue flats that are washable and come with extra inserts.

I also bought this pair of sandals for summer.

  1. Friend suffered from migraines, started taking magnesium daily, migraines have stopped, hasn’t had one for two years

  2. I really enjoyed this post. I purchased the foot cream for my husband who has psoriasis. I also purchased a pair of the sandals in yellow. I love yellow! Easter was spent with my son and granddaughter and her mother’s extended family. Instead of feeling like a square peg in a round hole, I felt more comfortable. Sometimes my attitude is my biggest problem and stops me from seeing a more whole picture of family. I’m reading another novel by Kristen Hannah which is softening my perspective as well.

    1. Christine, I’ve been learning the same thing as you…that sometimes my attitude is my biggest problem. And yes, it has definitely kept me from fully enjoying and seeing a larger picture of my family. Thanks for putting that into words.

  3. Hi Tiffany! This week was hard. A few simple things brightened my days. Using the automatic brew cycle on my coffee pot was a good thing. Washing my face with a nice moisturizing cleanser before bed made me feel good and cared for. Going for a walk early in the morning was very calming. The best thing is talking to my mom on the phone and got to visit Monday evening! Thanks for your honest, down to earth reflections. Looking forward to doing these good things again this week!
