10 Tiny Flourishes from February

Let’s start the month off with some tiny flourishes that made life better in February.

Here are 10 things I enjoyed the past month. I’d love to know what tiny flourishes are working in your life!

Sketching Walks

A couple of times over the last month, I’ve grabbed my sketchbook and pen and headed out on a walk down the road. I sketch trees, mailboxes, weeds, barns and horses.  Horses are hard! I need to do this practice more often, because I always enjoy it when I do.

UK Basketball Game

I hadn’t been to a game in decades, but a few weeks ago our youngest daughter managed to score five tickets in an Instagram giveaway. She called us with just thirty minutes to tip off. We hopped in the car and met her and one of our sons at Rupp Arena, managing to only miss a few minutes of the game. Such a fun surprise!

Dinner Theater for Grumpy Old Men Musical

Some friends of ours invited us to go to a dinner theater production of Grumpy Old Men. I had no idea what to expect from this but we had a great time with our friends and the musical was fun too!

Growing Things

I’ve been growing microgreens for a while and a few weeks ago, I tried growing sprouts for the first time. They’re easy to grow and taste great on sandwiches. Gardening season is around the corner. I’ve placed my seed orders and I’m ready to start planting when it’s time.

Outdoor Fire and Looking at the Stars

On a weeknight in mid-February, our oldest son came over for dinner and we decided to light a fire in the fire pit outside. It was chilly, but not too cold and the sky was full of stars. It was such a nice way to spend an evening and a good balm to the hard week that our son was in the midst of.

Daffodils and Crocuses Blooming

We’ve had such warm weather the last week or so and the spring flowers are already blooming. I know we will probably deal with below freezing temps again and maybe snow or ice still, but I’m loving the taste of spring!

Winter Hike

In early February we went on a morning hike in the Red River Gorge to a waterfall. The hike involved crossing a creek multiple times, which in the summer would be no big deal. But on the day we were hiking, the creek was icy and the stones and logs normally used to cross it were snow covered and slick. We had the most fun navigating our way through the challenges. The hike was gorgeous and it was a great way to spend a winter morning.

Big Panda and Tiny Dragon

I picked this book up in the library one day. It’s such a nice book to flip through.

Red-Tailed Hawks

We have a pair of hawks that live near by. On a warm, sunny day I watched the hawks soaring and gliding high overhead in the blue sky.

My Favorite Moisturizer

I love this face and body cream and my skin loves it too. Medicine Mama’s Sweet Bee Magic  feels so nice to smooth on after a shower. I’ve also used a different brand called Egyptian Magic. In the past I’ve found both of these brands at Costco for a great price, but they haven’t been carrying them lately.

  1. I have made an effort to go to bed at a reasonable time so I can wake up naturally without an alarm clock for at least half the week.
I also start my day doing something for me, reading, working on my business, walking outside, and catching the sun coming up.

    1. I love these ideas! I’m always happier if I go to bed early. And in truth, if I stay up, I’m not doing anything worthwhile anyway. Thanks for sharing!
