10 Tiny Flourishes from September

Here are 10 things I enjoyed during the month of September:

1. Spontaneous trip to the beach

Jim was off work the first week of September, but we’d made no plans. At the last minute, we booked a condo at our favorite beach and hit the road for a couple of days.

2. Trip to see our son in Arizona

Our son and his girlfriend moved to Tempe, AZ in the spring. It was great to get to go visit them. We had a really good weekend together!

3. Sunrise hike up Piestewa Peak

While we were in Tempe, we did a sunrise hike. We got up at 4am and hiked for over an hour to the summit. While the sun came up over a distant mountain range, a man played flute and Japanese drums. It was a wonderful experience!

4. Painted shutters

We’ve been giving the exterior of our house an upgrade. We took down all the brown shutters and I painted them black.

5. Fiction writing class

I love this local writing class and it’s good to be back for fall.

6. Our youngest daughter’s 21st birthday dinner

The family met at a local restaurant on the night of her birthday and we celebrated with her. I can’t believe my baby is a full-grown adult!

7. My birthday in Sedona

My birthday was while we were in Arizona. We took a little road trip to Sedona and it was gorgeous!

8. Reducing my phone usage

I removed all the remaining apps that caused me to endlessly scroll on my phone. I even removed the browsers from the home screen. Now I only use my phone to check email or listen to music, books or podcasts.

9. Keeping a sketchbook in my purse

Instead of scrolling on my phone, I pull out my sketchbook and do a quick drawing of whatever is around me.

10. Watching the moon in the evening

The last few nights, we’ve been sitting on the back porch watching the moon rise. It’s a beautiful way to end the day.
